Just doing some ground work ahead of a possible offer on a rather pleasing (to me !) power boat.

Recommendations please for engine and boat surveyors close to Poole.

VP KAD300s

VolvoPaul sadly is not available as he is, not surprisingly, stacked out.

We used Rob Bingham;

RB Marine Surveys

Very pleased with what he did for us and very approachable. He'll cast his eye over engines but he doesn't do engine surveys as per most surveyors. Mike Wills used to look after ours when it was based down there and the PO was always very complimentary about them.

That didn't take long Trevor! We are hoping to close on Vamoose today. I have no plans to buy in the UK until we are nearer the coast/have more time but we will keep enjoying our shared boat (with PeteM) in Spain! That said.... no one believes me!

??? if the boats got KAD300s In, I’m going to guess it’s the aquastar 38 that Origin yachts has for sale
KAMD300 if we are being picky

Looks like a tight fit.

The advert says . ''She has had two owners who have looked after her meticulously''.

The 24 valve engines like this need the valve clearances checking regularly - every 200 hrs I believe.

Always thought that the KAMD series of engines weren’t necessarily a good fit with a semi-displacement hull (where the benefit is being able to cruise at any chosen speed) because of the rev range where the Kompressors will be whining away making a particular speed range potentially unusable. My understanding is that there isn’t an issue mechanically with them running constantly but they can be pretty noisy. Less of an issue with a planing hull as they kick in to help get on the plane but cut out well before you reach cruising speed. Sound proofing of the engine bay will be something to look at I guess.

That aside, it looks to be a nice boat with good accommodation and I think Aquastars have good sea keeping qualities.
