Hi

I am looking to replace the egg crate sound proofing from my engine cover and wondered if anyone had done similar and had any recommendations that wouldn't break the bank. The existing foam is falling off in small pieces and turns to dust when you touch it.

I am also looking for new white edge trim to go around the engine bay lid. It has a white edge trim and round white seal all in one, great description I know but I haven't got a clue how to attach a photo ( not that I have got one)

Cheers

Paul

I used Maritex: http://www.chmarine.com/acatalog/halyard_sound_insulation.html

I had a similar issue to do, the old stuff was coming to end of life (similar 'egg box' that you mention), but also, the Dept. of Transport (who are the authorising body for coding boats in Ireland) insisted on it (as it's ISO fire rated)

I'm happy with it. Not only is it dead easy to apply (make sure you go for the one with the self-adhesive... worth it!) but offers good sound insulation. It also brightens up the engine bay as it's reflective.

While I was at it, I removed the single 12v bulb that lit the engine bay (chocolate teapot!!) and replaced with 10m of LED strip-lighting - it TOTALLY transformed working in the engine bay!

TIP: If installing Maritex (with self adhesive).... when you remove the old insulation, give it a quick sanding with sand-paper and block. When applying the Maritex, also use some Tec7 to give it extra bite around the edges.
