I think it is crazy that you can't get a Halon extinguisher refilled, it has got to be better than chucking a half-empty unit in a skip.

Isn't Halon a banned substance, now?

Yes, but it's like disposing of old refrigerators, if you chuck it in a skip, the gas eventually escapes. Much better to allow the refil of existing units.

You should not dipsose of a halon extinguisher (or an old fridge) in a skip.
A local household waste recycling facility will certainly take an old fridge , which they will send for responsible disposal. I imagine they might accept a halon extinguisher.
I think the use of halon was banned (in the UK) in 2002.

Probably not, but that is almost certainly where they end up.
