How long should I expect the fridge to last before it does a Monty Python on me.

It is switched off when I am not on board and kept clean.
Its only 3 1/2 years old for [--word removed--] sake!

I have had my fridge at home for 8 years...on constantly never missed a beat....

Oh but i forgot......

these are bulit by twats that think we are rich and nothing needs to last more than a ten minutes......

Anyone like to join me in campaigning for better quality/reliability for what goes into our boats?

Mind I am being to believe that Sealine looked at me and said...oh he looks like a right one lets give him every bit of crap we have and then say f-off when weve got his money.

Well Dougie, it's lucky you've not taken it to heart. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sounds as though you've been unlucky with this. I don't think you can expect more than 12 months out of a fridge, as that's the length of time they're usually warranted for.

Wouldn't it be an idea to pull it and organise a repair somewhere ?

You've been a bit unlucky there.

My old boat had them, 7 years, no probs. Current boat has 5 year old fridges...

They should last at least 10 years.

How long do your household appliances last....

I'm going for a fit for purpose stance and will be contacting trading standards if they dont budge...I am sure there is a little known EEC regulaion about warranty...

I will list all the things that have gone wrong or broke on this boat and start another thread.....

Not sure what my fridge is but still going strong after 25 years, mind you the fridge on my mates Fairline conked out after only 10 years ,mind you it was the outside one and resembled a rusty furball when we finally managed to extract it from its lair.

I had a problem in year 2 or 3. The 240/12v switchover bit stopped working on 240v.

Removed fridge and tested the switch over unit which was OK.

Refitted and £150 later (to French polish the deeply scratched galley sole) it worked ok for about six weeks and stopped working on mains power again.

Lived with it only working 12v (which was fine) until last month when I had it fixed 'properly' bu outside firm as did not wish to repeat the teak and holly jobbie.

Both my Engel's going strong and silently at 11 years old, though the surround of the outside ones is a bit rusty in places... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Boat and fridge are 28 years old. I had the fridge on all this weekend. It can still be used to make ice /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers,
