Hi all,.

Does anyone know what the correct rpm is to engage my outdrive? Someone mentioned 800 rpm but when I engage outdrive at that the rpm drops to around 350 rpm on load and stalls before I can push forward. Any ideas?

Cheers

James

Do you have the correct size propeller fitted ?

Even with an over pitched prop it should not give that much resistance through approx 2-1 reduction. Could be something caught round the prop. If you remove two of the four 7/16 unf bolts from the drive coupling you should be able to slide the drive flange (bolted to the flywheel) backwards on its splines. You can then engage gear (engine not running) and rotate the drive by hand. Worth a try.:encouragement:

hi guys , sorry for the late reply. there is nothing around the prop and i believe it is the right prop that is fitted. i am struggling because the only mixture setting i can get the engine to run smoothly at is around 1100 rpm. any less than that and it is hunting pretty bad bad and when i engage it it drops to 400 rpm. dont like the sound of the grinding of gears when i engae it at 11 rpm though. its the 1600 crossflow engine.

You need to get the engine running well as a first step as per your other thread. Is the engine from a car? If it doesn't have a heavy enough flywheel the revs could drop a lot on engaging the drive.
