Well I hope you all had a better season than me! Taking the sails off the boat today it hardly seemed worth bending them on at the start of the saeson!

I can count on one hand the number of trips in Karouise but at least I have decided I will not be selling her yet. I have had about 7 weeks afloat with the Navy when I ws between jobs and a trip to Calais in a friends Mobo so I guess I shouldnt feel too hard done by!! With the new job in Yorkshire it does make weekends a challenge to get back to family and spend time with them or go sailing but I am not ready to give up on sailing yet. I am even thinking about trying to be ready for the JAC 2012 ;)

I wish those who stay in the water some good sailing and I am looking forwards to Easter and getting afloat a bit more than this year! Maybe even get to the Fitting Up bash!!

Roll-on 27/4/12
WOT WORK :D

It's been mixed this season. I said that the summer would be family sailing time - but the weather gods decreed that it be otherwise and no family came aboard :( Still the early season was great and some bits and pieces resulted in 600 miles and 26 nights aboard. So better than some BUT STILL NOT ENOUGH

Boat in the water for the last two winters has brought forth the two coldest winters for decades - better luck this year perhaps. Who said it would snow in November? Nah.Surely not.

Me too laid up yesterday/today. Just putting the Spinny in the dining room to air and it occurs to me that it never came out of its bag this year. The Cruising Chute did.

I suppose it would be daft to add a snuffer to a 45 year old spinnaker so I'd use it more?

Great to put the boat to bed in the warm. Dropping the mast on Tuesday so expect some 30kt winds and driving rain!

Resolved to do some refreshing of the paint/varnish inside this winter, fit a holding tank, seriously prepare the brightwork outside (didn't varnish at all this year) and bring the wooden boom home (at 15' 4" that's going to be a challenge) to get it to Spinny Pole standards. Of yes and the rudder is coming off to replace the cheeks.

I shall not be bored then.

Sirenia came ashore today after 18 months afloat.
A bit sad the season is over and there will be no more sailing until next April.
I enjoyed having her afloat last winter but there are some things I need to sort over the winter.

As others have said, let’s hope for better sailing weather in 2012.

Fingers crossed we will be in the water on the 12th November. It's been a long old job getting this far but looking forward to some great winter sailing or at least motoring if it's too cold for hoisting sail.

We're planning on Christmas on board, determined to be out on the river on Boxing Day which has always been perfect when we haven't had a boat in the water.

The Kipper will ride again :)

May 2012 be the same as this year.

I woud be quite happy if 2012 is the same as this season. Spent 95 days on board and covered 2650 miles, and only 60 hours on engine. Sure I had to sit out more days than usual due to high winds, but did not have to put up with endless days of no wind when it is impossible to get any where without motoring.

Welcome to the EC Forun, Bikesailor - I'm glad you had such a good season - 2650 miles in a year is impressive and only 60 engine hours even more so. Where did you go - tell us about it!

We went out on Boxing Day last year. It was so cold when we left we broke the ice on the way out of Foxs! It was well worth it though. We will be on board over Xmas this year as SWMBO is working :(

I rather think that I will remember this as the year I made my first insurance claim since 1974, when a dinghy was stolen.

Actually we had quite a decent summer by getting away to the Baltic in May, at least until my gear cable parted at Burdaart in Friesland and our collision with someone's rock-garden gave rise to the scene below. As a result, we came ashore too early to enjoy this autumn's weather, though at least Mr Smoothy has been able to get on with the job, which is nearly finished.

Come over for a drink or two, apparently we're going in Celtic Green's berth, wherever that is. As long as it doesn't involve turning right we'll be fine. We can't turn right, we can turn left on a miniature sixpence, but we could try turning right all day and not manage it.

We have spent Christmas aboard for the last 7 or 8 years. On some of them we've sailed a few miles and usually we've been at anchor to cook our Christmas dinner. A bored Thames Coastguard appreciated a call to say "Happy Christmas" as we crossed the Spitway a couple of years ago.

I'm surprised more people don't do it - it's a wonderful way to avoid the arguments about which members of the family to spend the day with!

Not sure where Celtic Green is. Doesn't ring a bell as any of those on A or B so you may be down the 'other gangway'
We'll try and get together. I can show you a guitar or ten too :o  :D

Many thanks for the welcome. I keep the yacht on the Medway, but like the East Coast Rivers so much that I made six trips up the Swim/Wallet this year, plus 2 trips across to Southern Holland. Apart from about 200 miles when I had my daughter with me, the rest was completed singlehanded. I am quite happy to anchor and wait for wind rather than motor! Hope to go further next year.

2011 hasnt been all that bad and we aint at the end of it yet. Laying up, whats all that about?

We have had a great season, finally managing to get to the Norfolk Broads for a couple of weeks, going to Wells a couple of times and generally pottering around. So far for this year we have 1500 miles under our belts both inland and on the coast. I would say by far that this has been our bet season yet and the pictures below just sums up for us why we own a boat, could have been anywhere in the world, never mind the East Coast. You will have to excuse the lack of a rag and stick mind :D

I went down to Titchmarsh to see how our repair was getting on and I am pleased to say that it is all finished and looks fantastic, so well done Mr Smoothy. I just need to get my money back from the insurers.
