end cap removal from a cylinder, just saw this tool, food for thought ?

Does look good! Can’t find prices anywhere though.

Probably have to be a forum tool purchase for the once in 5 years it’s needed :)

I just took an old 15Kg delta anchor and cut the shaft off, shaped a handle to take a longer pipe extension. Where the D shackle goes through is / was 17mm and fitted nicely over the 16mm piston arms / spindle. drilled 3 x 6mm holes and used old brake caliper pins for pins. Drilled 3 6mm holes using the tool itself as a jig into the endcap. That gave over a meter and a half of extension with the pipe. As it turned out, the pipe extension wasn't needed. Such a simple tool, 20 minutes to make using nothing more than an angle grinder and a drill and cost nothing as the delta anchor was a bit crap anyway. My rams turned out not worth saving but it made short work of the replaceable endcap. Almost tore it in half.

gotcha. Although I am going to be honest here, nice and shiny as that tool is I have a pneumatic impact wrench, 8 bar 1200Nm and it would never take a corroded endcap off. On that I will put money. A torque bar on the end of that tool might, but my honest opinion is the pins are just simply too small. They will simply gouge out the soft aluminium endcap and the whole bundle just looks too expensive to take a punt on. I will take a photo tomorrow of the simple tool I made. Even at 6mm the aluminium endcap started to tear. I would only consider this tool if I was doing annual ram overhauls. i.e. before the endcaps had time to bond due to corrosion.

Sent you pm with drawings for tool
