If your sister is doddling through, mention to her that we don't think much of her, and she isn't preparing lessons which challenge her and her charges.

Be fair here ...
a) you have no idea what she has got prepared - or how much it is challenging her students
b) some ppl are naturally gifted in teaching so will find the whole job "easy" whilst others will have to work hard at it.

I breezed through my degree - because I enjoyed it and had good knowledge and experience in the key areas so I didn't have to work too hard. Others on the same course where having to put in hours and hours of study and having a hard time.

Same happened in the RYA courses (including dinghy instructor) - as it is a subject I love and have had years of relative experience in I found them reasonably easy, others did not.

Both my Mum and Brother are teachers (different subjects).... I'd like the long(er) holidays, but not when they have to take them. I wouldn't like the politics involved at all ....

I trained as a teacher - but have never taught as a job as I was fed up through 4 years of training with the politics and paperwork...

However now running my own businesses, I work much longer hours for much less holiday and earn less money than I would have done as a teacher...

Simple fact is that there are some jobs as a teacher which are idyllic, others which are not, some with customers (parents) who are awful, others not - much the same really as any job.

I would like the holidays, and they are long, what ever anyone says about having to work during them, but I love the freedom of working for myself and not having to be tied to one room at certain times in the day...

I am or have been the governor of a number of schools, so see the situation from a different perspective as well...

however lets not forget the original post - fact is that this is a school / teacher who hasn't bothered to think through the implications of what they are saying, no different to any other business not offering good customer service, and in the same way, you either ignore them, or go elsewhere /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Reality is, there isn't much they can do, so let the kids enjoy the sailing and tell us all how it went...

They phoned the county educational welfare officer who laughed down the phone and told them to take their holiday. She said 'I have enough problems trying to deal with the kids that only go to school for two weeks in two years'.

I suspect you would get a similar response from any county EWO. The school's head wouldn't dare refer the matter. He/she would be a laughing stock.

And therein lies the crux of the matter.

Sounds like it's time for letters and phone calls to EWOs all over the place. I'd bet most parents dont even know they exist.
