EnChroma - Glasses for colour blindness correction.

I don't need to convince anybody. I know all about colour blindness, in part because of my own deficit, but also from my university studies in psychology. He's provided no evidence that those glasses work, and I know they can not.

So why not explain your point instead of being rude, irrelevant and now dismissive?

It's hard to understand what they mean, but I can't believe it's anything other than a red or green filter over one eye. I have no idea what they mean by "proprietary", but there's no patent on coloured light filters. The only types of light filter I know of are coloured filters and polarising filters, and it isn't a polarising filter.

I might add that I know a fair bit about colour vision, since I studied it in undergraduate psychology. I was chosen as a test subject in a practical group experiment, in which the rods and cones of my retina were mapped.

There are also interference filters. These are made by depositing thin layers of metals on a substrate. They are often +10 layers deep and produce very sharp notch filters of just a few micro meters width. They are used in measurement systems and in fibre optic communication and have been since the 70s at least.

I'm not an expert in optics, but I do have experience of filter design in electronics. That experience makes EnChroma's brief explanation at least plausible to me.

So given that there is a well established optical filter you haven't heard of and my understanding of filters at different frequencies, you can perhaps see why I don't find your argument convincing.

The notch filter is not a difficult concept to grasp, and it's often used in audio production. Filtering out light of a frequency between that of red and green light, would simply remove yellow light. There would be no enhancement or addition to red and green.

I see no indication of how it's supposed to work. Just a lot of pseudo-scientific waffle, that's all.

Okay, without any reference to hair loss or the technology behind the lens, I admit to being colour blind to an extent. I took the Enchroma online test and it pronounced me as strongly Deutan.? At 64 years old I’ve learnt to live with it. I find it easier to see the red and green on the plotter than the real object so it’s on all the time and if I have guests or crew I say, what colour is that! I’ve seen the videos and probably have more money than sense, so I bought a pair of clip on enchromas. First thing I did was take the online test again while wearing them. Now I’m apparently Normal.
My first surprise wearing them is, I thought I was more Green affected than any other colour but the difference with the glasses is only marginal. Red however is a Complete game changer! The colour red now appears vivid, bright and shocking.
I have no intention of wearing them in normal use but I can’t wait to see what difference it makes to my sailing.. I have high hope, particularly in poor light. I will report back whether they are as good as expected. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all.

Thanks for this. I will be very interested to hear how you get on sailing.

Happy New Year

Just out of curiosity; has anyone who isn't colour blind tried them? What effect, if any, was apparent?
