enamel paint

Hi, i own an eventide 24 she is my first wooden boat. can ipaint the topsides with enamel paint used normaly for steel, after sanding down and priming with two coats of undercoat,the ply is in good condition, or do i need special paint for wood? thanks in advance for replys. rose.

Many on this site will tell you how good it is on wooden boats..........or you could go out and spend a fortune on some boaty paint that wont be as good. IMHO!!

I used Dulux Weathershield on the interior of my boat and it discoloured within a year. Using Blakes in the same area, after three years it is as good as new! I now always use marine paints for marine applications.

My old girl came out nice - with a few coats of good ole weathersheild!

Its been on there over a year now. Its not as bright as when it was first done, but a quick polish would restore that no problem. Plus, its much cheaper than enamel!

Hi welcome to the Eventiders (mines a 26). Quite a few people use Dulux Weathershield - though I do not know of anyone who has tried taking them up the '10 year guarantee' offered with it. I have done wooden boats with it for many years and never have any problems if you follow the guidelines. Its supposed to have an anti rot agent in it too, which cannot be bad!

For the decks use textured masonry paint. More durable, much finer grain than deck paint, easier to apply, and MUCH more comfortable to walk or sit on, but completely non slip.

Our boat was originally painted with Wattyl solaguard waterbased like weathershield and needed re doing every year under Aussie conditions the whole thing has since been redone with International Brightside White cabintop and royal blue hull topsides and has lost a bit of its shine in 3 years and should last ten before a complete repaint one point waterbased paints are a pain in the butt to remove totally was a massive job took a month total just a note boat is permantly in the water

I've used International and Blakes but in recent years have settled on Teamac. It seems to last atleast as well and probably better. And it costs much, much less. Teamac
