Mine was the boat in front of the yellow crane, lifted for the weekend. It's great there, it's cheap there, it's friendly there but it is a few hours from the Solent. The tidal access is fine for me but I draw 0.7m, I've never heard anyone complain though. the facilities are now pretty good if you can ignore the silly push button shower and lighting nonsense. Even in very windy weather it can be a nice quiet sanctuary thanks to the high sides, although this can catch you out if you don't look over the wall before leaving!
Cheers
Dave

+1 on all that Dave says, we've been there since 2001 or so, in two different boats. really buzzing these days.
Oh, and we just lean on the shower button, Dave:eek:

We draw 1.3 ish, keel up, so last Friday/Sat night, we got in over the sill at 21.00 or so, on a 00.09 Pompey HW of 4.6m, 4 days before Springs today and Tuesday. We were the one with the French courtesy flags still up, while we replaced the auto bilge pump and dried the back cabin carpets!:D

We always reckon on an hour to the Bar, an Hour-ish to the Forts, 2 hours to Cowes, or an hour to the Gosport Fleshpots if you work your tides.

Unless you draw 2m, when you can get neaped by the sill or the approach channel, you can usually be sure of 2hrs either side unless there is a high slap over us.

I am moored next to Dave and love being in Emsworth Marina. Facilities are great and it's a friendly place. Handy chandlers onsite with all those odd bits and bobs, all sizes of screws and bolts sold loose. It's also very sheltered. Cafe is also good, fantastic for a blow out breakfast before catching the tide. I have a lift keel so can get in and out quite easily. Their website has the details of clearance over the sill in a table and graph so you can work it from that. If you miss it coming in on the ebb you will have to get back to just beyond Fishermans Mark in quick order to remain afloat and then you can go and wait on the visitors pontoon. You do need to be aware of the speed of the current on the ebb so don't try cutting it too fine coming in as it is probably getting close to about 2 knots average towards 3 hours after HW. Manouevring in the marina can be a bit restrictive for some berths as there is not alot of room to swing in and there can be quite a current through the main and secondary entrances beyond and hour or so either side of HW.

Of course I should be telling you it's rubbish to avoid too much demand:)

Your mileage may vary.

We enquired about berthing there back in November 2011. The HM told us there was no availability and gave us a form to fill out to join the waiting list. I have yet to hear back from them.

Somehow, I'm not expecting to get a call seeing as he showed total disinterest and we barely managed to get in through the office door, which was initially locked, even though it was during their "open" hours.

A mate of mine now runs the chandlers and is one of the most helpful blokes I know - the stock range is getting better and better.. and I'm not just saying that because I want a discount next time! :D

I'd also mention the on site outboard engineers Bill at Home Marine - had excellent service from them over the years...

It's a nice spot...

Are you talking about the marina? There are always staff onsite and almost always availability for berths. I suspect you're referring to the harbour office in Emsworth which is nothing to do with the marina and is almost always closed because the main office is in Chichester!

In that case, tell your mate that the next thing he needs is price tags!! That and the website are the main reason I generally shop at Port Solent.

We were in Emsworth up until 2005, with our previous boat. What we would do is after arriving at the boat on a Friday evening, once there was enough water over the sill, we'd slip out to pick up one of the bouys down the channel. That way you had an early start on Sat and you werent waiting for HW at noon.

Like the others say a lovely place and reading this post, missed.

I have a friend who is currently berthed in there and he loves it - shore services have provided him with invaluable support. Tide is restricting but no more so than a drying berth.

Ate in the Restaurant/Cafe earlier in the year and the food / service was superb.

Yep - he said the same thing when he first got the place - check again now - I was in the other day and it appears to be in hand...

If the place doesn't do what you want it to do go and tell him - he's keen to get it right, and he had a LOT of sorting out to do when he picked it up from the last owner.... win/win situation as you save the trip to Puerto Solento

Definitely talking about the marina. The office upstairs above the brokers. Considering how positively people tend to talk about the staff, we must've caught the bloke on an off day as he made it very clear he had no interest in our business.

We ended up in Thornham for the winter, who were extremely helpful and accommodating.

I have to agree with the thoughts on the chandlery, it was very good for buying bits and pieces. (although Marine Superstore a little further up the road worked out cheaper for larger purchases)

Nice to read peoples comments, gives one a better idea of a place rather than the sales blurb. On reflection, and after getting a price for my boat, I think I'll stay where I am. The idea of a marina berth was to make it more attractive to the the other half.........I don't love her that much! Up side is the boat will stay a "wife free zone"
