Empty Marina?

I've seen a parade in La Coruna that included a bagpipe marching band. Popular in that part of the world with the Celt connection.

What seems odd us that it’s a perfectly pleasant place and the marina is cheap enough with shops and tapas and restaurants nearby. It’s on one of the Camino routes so should get lots of tourists.

The church out on the headland is breathtaking. There was an all girl rock band with s huge (proper) sound system warming up nearby. Not hundreds of people around though.

Agreed about the place and very nice staff on site. Only downside was I needed the washerama and it just went on and on.

A Coruna was packed, but they did have a big festival going on. Other crew members went and watched UB40, I saw them in Bristol a long time ago and was not impressed.

Ali Campbell said of him when he created his version of the group, UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey "I sat back for five years and watched my brother Duncan murdering my songs."

About 20 years ago Mrs S and I ran a Motorboat on charter out of Estepona, Spain. One of our customers was Ali Campbell, his wife and two daughters. We took them on a trip to Gib and back.

Looks a bit bumpy round Finisterre from tomorrow for a couple of days.

There are two places where I always seem to get wrong way winds. There and Cabo de Gato on the other side of the Peninsular.

Once round though, it's a lovely part of the world. Have you been to Bayonna before? The Real Club Nautico is awesome. Best fuel dock for many a mile, Clubhouse is a dream and a short walk into town, second one back from front line is the street of a billion tapas bars. Delightful!

Agreed. That’s why we’re up early tomorrow to try and get round before the heavy winds set in. All my forecasts say they’re not due to get going until later in the day. Fingers crossed…

Thanks for the tip re further S. I’ve never sailed this part of the coast before although I went into Lisbon by submarine once..

Just arrived in Muxi in Galicia, N Spain. Came round the breakwater and I wasn’t sure whether we could get a berth. Was greeted with the sight of a near empty marina.

After the sinking of the Prestige ofthe Galician coast a lot of money was pumped into the area one little number was building marinas many of which are underused.In away it’s progress but especially in Muxia for me it changed the charachter of the port

Depends on how far south you mean. Algarve is pretty busy with lots of boats passing through. We're up the Guadiana and pontoons both sides at Alcoutim/Sanlucar are full and usual number on anchor.

It's a shame, given the impact of the development and the facilities going unused, that more of the locals don't have a boat.

We had the same experience in 2018. None of the harbours in the rias were packed, to our satisfaction.

I love the MRCYB. I have spent many happy hours in the bar/restaurant of the club. I recall that for many years they had a large Guernsey Yacht Club burgee in pride of place behind the bar.

We were in Bayonna lat year. Marinas full. Anchored off for a couple of days then straight down to Cascais.

I think they may have noticed the several thousand tonnes of black thing on the surface heading into their harbour… I was on the fin for the final approach and as we parked and it was interesting to watch the extremely competent captain park a nuclear boat alongside without tugs. (They we’re standing by in case if anyone asks.)
