The licence wont get you past the snake but you will need it once you get to the gates .
I take it you picked up the rowing coaches megaphone before you entered the cave ? You will need this to get past the snake as the snake is a rower constrictor .
If you add to the document they call "Pet-it-ion" the wives will say the words of power and the mystic portal will open allowing you passage to non-tidal Thamesis.
If however you have written "Mickey Mouse" on "Pet-it-ion" the other portal will be opened and you will be swept into the hell they call PLA.....

While we're on the subject of Teddington Lock. Is there any reason why the whole of the Barge lock isn't being used when necessary? I went down with 11 boats in April and the lockie only used half the lock which left 3 boats having to wait for the next lock through.
I have 18 boats from our club coming through on 25th May in the early morning and ideally i'd like them all to lock through together if possible.

We don't use the whole length of the lock if we are single handed simply because it isn't safe to really.
If we are starting to empty the lock either from the head or tail pedestal , and the lock is full of boats, the furthest one could potentially be 200m away. If it was to hang up or whatever , we would never see it or even hear the owner shouting . The barge lock is very slow to fill and to empty ( 1.75 million gallons ) , so if we had a hang up , to stop the water going out and then let some more in in time would be practically impossible before the cleats ripped out of the deck.
Also , and we have tried this , we can turn the top half around twice in more or less the same time as it takes to do a whole barge lock. If you look at a google earth image of the lock , you will see that the middle gates aren't halfway down , but about a third of the way down. So in actual fact you don't lose much time at all ...
If we have a summer hand , then we can postition ourselves so that we can watch the lock safely. Its all about safety , we know what happens when boats get hung up don't we ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif usually ends with a letter to the office .... which we don't want quite frankly ....
The tail gates are also kept chained open as the water exiting from the top section flows into the bottom section and has a habit of pulling them closed as it flows past. We do use the whole length of it on very busy days , but only when we have a summer hand , or we are doubled up.
If the 18 boats arrive when it is just the lock-keeper on his own with no summer hand , i'm afraid they will have to lock through in two locks . If you want to come through as a group in the daytime when we have summerhands , if you give us a buzz a few days before , we'll do our best to sort you out.
