Stonewalling? Why and how? I think they look like a team that is peaking at the right time. I think Alinghi will have a fight on their hands. I still think Alinghi will take it - maybe even 5-0, but they will have to be at the top of their game. Clearly the Kiwis are.

No, don't think so; quite simply, Luna Rossa is not competitive in light winds (say, lower than 12Kt).
Had the wind been higher (like on day-1) the match would have been tougher, although I doubt the end result would have been different.
They also made a couple of tactical mistakes, but in the end NZ was just plain faster.
Well done to the Kiwis, now let's hope the AC will show some fighting!

No, don't think so; quite simply, Luna Rossa is not competitive in light winds (say, lower than 12Kt).
Had the wind been higher (like on day-1) the match would have been tougher, although I doubt the end result would have been different.
They also made a couple of tactical mistakes, but in the end NZ was just plain faster.
Well done to the Kiwis, now let's hope the AC will show some fighting!

Yes, ETNZ won because:
- as a crew they sailed flawlessely (from pre-start to finish)
- their weather team made the right strategic calls and they got the correct side of the course and hence shifts
- in these conditions their boat is slightly faster on all points of sail, notably in light-airs tacking, when Luna Rossa have to go heavily bow down to rebuild boatspeed
When you combine all these factors consistently, you end up with a 5:0 score even thought at times it was fairly close. LR did make a couple of tactcial mistakes but even if they hadn't, with everyhting else being equal they were always going to find it hard to find their way around ETNZ because of the slight boatspeed advantage. Remember that over the course of a race, a 30s win represents around 0.5% differential in performance.
But there is no second place in the LV (nor the AC).
So it's a case of whether ETNZ can keep the momentum and whether Alinghi is an even match or whether they have a slight edge. My insiders tell me they do have a hot rig which could be the special difference that causes us a problem. Too hard to call. But I'm sure that Alinghi will be looking at ETNZ and thinking that they face a tough challenger. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
