Emergency ladders on marina pontoons - are they worth having?

Funnily enough, we were just remarking on Friday evening how appalling the pontoon lighting is at SYH. I recall ChrisE posting a number of years ago about an involuntary swim and the impossibility of getting out the water without help.

Another MDL / shamrock story. We are right at one end of the marina and we have to go past a dogleg that was just a bit too easy to miss in the dark. Lighting was poor and the edge not marked. Especially as we have an excitable 11 year old and black lab.
I rang shamrock and notified them on a near miss and within 24 hours an L shaped fence had been erected on the corner.
What I’m saying is be specific to your marina about the problem and give them a chance to fix it.

Well it may be completely unconnected to this discussion, but a nice shiny safety ladder has arrived on our pontoon and a there would appear to be a few more sprouting up around the marina :-) not enough to be intrusive you understand but at least they are there. I did e-mail YM and suggest it might be worth a story, I gather the suggestion was passed to the editor but I've heard no more.
