Emergency food rashens on board………………………………….

What do you keep on the boat for that extra night away ?

I will kick it off, and am unashamed to say… Fray Bentas steak pies and bully beef

Corned Beef and tinned potatoes to make a corned beef hash.

Cans of

Soup
Beans
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Sweet Corn
Frey Bentos
Corned Beef
Beef Stew
Curry
Chilli

To name but a few :D

Some dried milk for when the real stuff goes off, or runs out.
Various packets of five minute rice/pasta etc
Biscuits.

But the list goes on. At the beginning of each season we always have a victualling trip to the supermarket and go around topping up with odds and ends for exactly this purpose. It's the one shopping trip each year that I am keen to make. We've always got something on board to fill an empty belly.

Emergency rations

I dont keep anything specifically but there is always more food on board than I need so just a case of choosing something.

A few ideas though.

  • A can of soup gives you soup and toast if you have some bread
  • A can of beans will similarly give you beans on toast.
  • Cheese on toast if you have some cheese.
  • A can of ( M&S) chicken in white sauce, some rice and a small can of peas will quickly give you chicken and rice.
  • A can of sweet and sour chicken, + a can of oriental stir fry vegetables and some egg noodles . ( best with extra sweet and sour sauce)
  • Eggs dont keep but if you have them an omelette is quick and easy to make. Add ham, tomatoes or cheese if you have them. Nice if you have some French bread
  • Pot noodles !

A better idea is to be near a decent pub !

So you're the one that keeps Fray Bentos on board! There was a long discussion a couple of months ago as to whether or not it was an Urban Legend! They are not a bad idea, but my wife (who is Spanish) regards steak and kidney pie as the work of the devil!

Nothing wrong with FBPs. :D

Extra night! I leave enough on board for at least two weeks, it would have been a month but I cleared out all the pre 2005 stuff this summer :o

Lidl stores feature prominently - Noodles, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Goulash, Ginger bics.
Then there are plastic containers of Rice and Spaghetti, & Breakfast Cereal.
Tinned Potato, Veg, Soup, Cup-a-Soups, Fray Bentos & fruit.
Not to mention Tea, Coffee, Drinking Chocolate, Powered & LL milk, Squash, Wine & Spirits. ;)

pasta, tin of tuna and tin of chopped tomatoes.. and some chilli!

Always some on board. But then i live onboard ;)

Anyone tried canning in a pressure cooker? I've some rather nice stew which should last another year stashed away in a locker for a minchies moment.
