Just read the first few pages of the original thread.
I'm going to take it all on and decide whether or not this is a boat related thread. I'll be back - but not for a while.

Seems she has become a self-styled social media thingy of some sort - probably based on the post count of the main thread.

Gosh, the internet, you've got to love it, the way it deludes one, fools one, into thinking it actually has some meaning;

"I'll buy a boat, I'll post about it, wow, lots of people interested, f*** the boat, I'm an internet sensation instead. I know, I'll become a social media consultant instead. Let the boat rot. I don't need it anymore. Some companies have sent me some free stuff. I'm Mark Zuckerberg. Who wants to float? Where's the mansion?"

Sad reflection of our times. Meanwhile the poor boat sits in the mud and the timbers rot as it patiently waits for the next enamoured soul to notice it and make the jump.

I really despair at the levels of inane comments that have followed my post.

The news I posted was that Ellie had not been seen at the boat yard for some time. This is information with some interest. If she had been seen, that would have ruled out the possibility that she had been taken ill or worse.

I asked the moderators to lock the thread but have had no response.

Have those who subscribe to this forum nothing better to do that snipe at each and make childish comments?

Please make some effort to raise the tone.

If you have nothing useful to add, then don't.

I tried hard to resist rising to respond but - really.

Now please let the matter rest. In future, if I glean any further information, it will be disseminated by pm only to those who have shown responsibility.

I am so sorry that many of the forumites fall below the high standards you set for yourselves.

I wish I could express my feelings better, but I feel so uncomfortable about this whole subject.

It seems to be a group of 5-10 people making continuous and repeated cutting, nasty, and thoroughly unpleasant slurs against a fellow sailors' integrity, decency and motives, without any concrete evidence.

How is that different to severe bullying? I alerted the moderators to this many weeks ago, and (I assume) they considered it, and ignored my worries.
I can only imagine that the board owners are rubbing their hands with glee at the activity on this board, in consideration of the increased advertising revenue of post count statistics.

However, bullying should be universally unacceptable, and if the subject of a concerted bullying campaign should somehow come to harm, then what would the legal responsibility of the moderators and board owners be, in addition to all the negative publicity?

If it was my sister or your sister who was having all this vitriol aimed at them, how would YOU feel? I'd be devastated!

I have no knowledge of any situation, but imagine if an unstable person were to have this campaign aimed at them? I think the potential outcome is too dreadful to imagine, even if it is complete conjecture.

I doubt this will get through or have any impression on the nastiest of "haters", and of course, bullies do it because it makes them feel better about themselves, so I doubt they're going to stop, but at what point to the moderators say "This is unacceptable behaviour towards another fellow sailor" and lock the subject?

Or as I suspect, is it purely down to visitor and poster stats?
