Hi guys,

my boat got a clipper wind system for its christmas and i was wondering if its possible to wire it up to my st1000 tillerpilot so that it would steer by the wind direction

i know the tillerpilot is capable with some systems just not sure if the clipper is one of them

cheers

thank you for your comment, in the sales blurb for the clipper it says NMEA 0183 output sentence MWV, not sure exactly what that means and it doesn't say anymore about it in the user manual

Nasa manuals are notoriously poor! The MWV sentence isn't much used these days, VWR is preferred. I think your tillerpilot needs VWR - is it an ST1000+ or the rather old ST1000? It is possible to convert NMEA sentences by adding a box of tricks, but maybe that's too complex.

hmm your explanation is very interesting, I worked in the printed circuit board design industry for a time and I wrote conversion programs for different types of gerber, the output from the pc design software to different types of cnc drilling machines, photoplotters etc, I will need to look into what exactly vwr and mwv are actually saying, I'm sure I could knock something up for less than £120, I'm Scottish you see :-) thank you very much for your input into my question you have given me a lot to think about

just found an interesting site http://www.thomasknauf.de/seatalk.htm i'll need to study this a bit
