I bought one of these units mainly for my chart table.

Great bit of kit.

I thought it may be handy as a compass for my National Solo as well but while the compass works well it stays on only 30 seconds. I guess I can press the button every 30 seconds but it would be nice to have just an electronic compass for that sort of money. Anyone know if there is such a unit?

The electronic compass used by dinghy racers tends to be the TackTick ones - not cheap but used up to and including Olympic levels. I see there is a thread on the Solo site about how best to fit these.
Good for spotting windshifts at open sea events - but perhaps overkill for pottering

I used a quality large card compass on my Finn dinghy, I think a TackTick may be over capitalising on a Solo. The idea is for the compass to cost less than the dinghy.
