has anyone used the admiralty/rya electronic chart plotter? Is it any good? what's the catch if it is on sale for only £40?

Hardly a catch at the price! Look how many charts you get in each portfolio. I have only used it at home on a desktop PC so cannot comment on use as a live chartplotter, but otherwise it is simple to use to plan passages - however a better passage planner (at a much higher price) is Neptune Plotter/planner as it has tidal stream info which is factored in to the outputs.

Think you only get use for certain period of time.
