Hello, Further to my recent post on replacing the drive leg on my bow thruster which now works once again (:)), there is one last step to complete the job. When I replaced the drive leg there was no indication of which way round the part had to be installed, therefore I had a 50:50 chance of getting it right ...and inevitably I opted for the 50% that was 100% wrong.

The installation instructions do cover this instance. They state: "If, during tests the boat moves in the wrong direction, change around the blue and the brown wires on your power relay."

So not being good with electrics I study the diagram and identify what appears to be the power relay. I also notice that both the brown and the blue wires appear to have a thin black cable soldered on to them ...and to a novice like me, it looks as though I could easily break these. See below.

Therefore I also look at other potential solutions. I find a white block of some sort which has blue and brown wires going in and out and wonder about changing them around there. See below.

I also find a similar situation as the image above at the control panel, and again wonder about swapping the blue and brown wires over here instead. See below.

In the end I don't take any action, as I don't know how to swap over the cables going into the blocks either and I don't want to break my newly fixed bow thruster. Instead, I take some photographs and post them here in the hope that a kindly fellow sailor might take pity on me and give me some pointers as to the least technically challenging solution.

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

Any of those solutions will do. I changed the connections as in the last photo.

Thanks Talulah, that's what I had thought, but my total lack of electrical knowledge is getting in the way of me trying ...in case I break something. I'm going to have a closer look at the blue connectors at the relay (and try to understand how they disconnect), alternatively I'll need to find out how to swap the wires on a block.

Thanks once again for your feedback!

If they say to swap at the relay, do it there. The connectors just pull off.

Hello Nigel, Many thanks for your help. I was a bit worried about pulling the connectors in case I broke them, so it's handy to know that they simply come off.

As it happens, I picked up your message after I took the decision to swap the wires at the helm control panel (the last of the three pictures above). I chose that terminal block because access was good and there was a spare hole that I could experiment with. After a while I figured out how it worked and managed to swap the blue and brown wires without any drama. This did the job, and the thruster is functioning as it should once more.

Thanks once again for taking the time to reply, and thanks to those above along with the forum member who sent a private message.

Job done : )
