A mariner I met from Carlise at Fairlie Marina told me to get this special manual for boat electrics, it was expensive, 40 quid or more but after many years using it, he said it was the only one worth having. Anyone any idea what it is called. The way he spoke it was like the bible every mariner should have.

It could be "The Marine Electrical and Electronics Bible" by John C Payne. "A Practical Handbook for Cruising Sailors".

It retailed for £22.99 when new. I have a copy if you would like it in exchange for a reasonable donation to a cancer research charity. It is in almost 'unused condition'.

The "12 Volt Doctor's Practical Handbook" and a link to on online edition is above.
There is however a much more recent edition available to buy

Another to consider is The 12-Volt Bible for Boats

Calder's Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual Mentioned above is the book most usually referred to.

Garrod's Electrics Afloat is based on a series of PBO articles .

In addition to Payne's Marine Electrical and Electronics Bible already mentioned there is by the same author Understanding Boat Wiring

Some of the books are American publications and would reflect American standards and practices. Probably of no major consequence
