Just re-organising Ayla's cockpit locker to make room for a holding tank, and one of the items that's in the way is a (domestic type) electricity meter in the shore-power supply.

Why would this have been fitted? - It can't be read without opening the locker.

My current plan is just to remove it, and connect the shore-power straight into the "consumer unit" - Is there any reason why I should retain it? (The marina has prepaid metered outlets).

since all it does is read the leccy consumption, whether you keep it is up to you. but the installation of that sort of meter in a boat suggests that the whole set up is both diy and inappropriate, and should be very carefully checked out before connecting anything up to it.

on my last boat I found domestic wiring joined mid length with chocolate blocks and insulating tape for example.
