Electricity and ice

Is the ice derived from pure water, or is it contaminated with electolytes ?

Are you thinking of motorised ice skates, or some very subtle scheme to remove a villain without leaving any trace as the morning sun rises ?

The difference in conduction between "pure water" and real world examples of fresh water is down to the presence of ions in the water that act as charge carriers. In ice, even if such ions are still presence, their mobility will be greatly decreased by being in ice rather than water so I would expect that at low concentrations the impurities would have less impact on the conductivity of ice than of water.

I wasnt, but I am now! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was thinking of a boat in water or water in a bilge, so deffinately contaminated.
