Having problems with a certain marine electrician who was recommended to us, he keeps saying he will go to the boat and look at our nav light problem, and just never actually does, this is getting to be an urgent problem as we are off to france and ci's next weekend and need to be able to anchor for the night, does anyone else have any recommendations for marine electricians in the gosport/portsmouth area who are reliable? Many thanks.

Shame, I would have popped over if you were oop in the NW.

What exactly is the problem, are you sure with a little guidance we can't help you self diagnose and repair, thus gaining a little experience for the future too?

If you are really stuck, buy yourself a paraffin storm lamp (for a tenner or so)which will do very well as an achor light. Obviously this will not help for the other proper navigation lights.

Index marine sell very good stand alone anchor lights that consume very very little current and would solve your problem if it is only the anchor light that is faulty.

Alan.

I can recommend Steve Jupp as a diesel engineer and electrics man.
Do bear in mind that this is a busy time of year for all marine trades people, with the holiday season upon us plenty of us are finding problems we need sorted like yesterday!!
Some of them are booked up threes weeks in advance and thats without any complications setting in.
I personally would rather wait a little longer and get a good job done than rush in and get anyone to do it as long as its done!!

If you are stuck and dont plan to night sail much, you can get battery operated Navigation lights which screw to the pulpit/pushpit, would also be handy as emergency lights if main batteries fail.
