I'm off to my boat in Lagos on Tuesday armed with a new engine panel, new alternator, new splitting diode and an Adverc Smart Regulator thingy. Is there a forumite in the marina, or can anyone recommend someone in the area, who would help me cobble this lot together? Most of it apart from the Adverc will just be straight exchange (wire by wire) of the existing bits and bobs but in the certain knowledge the present split charge diode is wired wrongly and because I've been having engine/battery charging problems, I do need someone who knows his onions and is able to identify which wires do what and use a multimeter to trace any inherent wiring problems.

I'll be there for a week from Tuesday evening to Tuesday evening. Happy to pay the going rate, the problem is finding someone to help me, I'd guess there's a half or full days work necessary.

Cheers, Brian.

I met Rob from RUSailing scholl based in Lagos this year. He seemed like the sort of bloke who wouldn't mind telling you who is good and who isn't over a beer.

Also Richard_M44 or Richard1002 (now) kept his boat there.

John Holloway is your man. Very experienced and capable marine electrical/electronic tecn. Lived in the area for many years. Phone 00 351 914902538 or email nojfairchild@hotmail.com He is round the marina most days. OR, Sopromar have a good marine electrician these days, but likely to be more expensive than John Holloway and not nearly as experienced.
Good luck and fair winds.

I am probably a bit out of date but, there is a good generator/motor electrical outfit in Parchal (did some good rewinds for me) savvy with electrics in general. Above them was the guy who could fix Autohelms. Turn off the old 125 after the bridge from Portimao towards Ferroguda. At the roundabout infront of Lydl take the left just after. Short distance up the on the left. Not sure if the bridge (one of Eiffels) is functional at the moment, so might be another way round.

Here's the Lagos Navigators website:

http://www.lagosnavigators.net/index.asp

There's a VHF chat at 0930 on Channel 09 Mondays and Fridays, and it looks like Terrys boat, Selene, is in Sopromar boatyard, rather than in the marina.

I didnt use an electrician while I was there, but found Sopromar good for stuff I couldnt do myself.

Here's a list of contacts from the site:

the electrician mentioned, (john holloway), above is amongst them.

Hope this helps

Richard

Hi

Spent two seasons in Lagos. At the time 06-07 John was OK but not cheap. If the boat yard is still using the same guy I could not recommend him having seen his work. Best bet is to ring Terry, he himself does Air Con work so will know some one. Please pass on our regards when you speak to him.

Another vote from me for John Holloway.

He did a number of jobs on my boat in Portimao in 2005/06 and was very good. I agree with the comment that he was not cheap, but the cost was fair and everything he did has continued to work well.

I also picked up a lot from him and have been able to do a little more on the electrical side for myself since.
