Can anyone recommend a good electrician and what sort of cost would we be looking at for a westerly 33 re-wire job

I can recommend a good electrician in Cornwall, but if a total re-wire the cost is going to start to approach a very significant percentage of the value of the boat. Also one definitely not to use. If you are in Cornwall PM me if you want names.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately i am in Lincolnshire, but would move my boat a reasonable distance to have the work carried out if the cost wasn't through the roof

You could try Paul Rainbow who posts here rainbowmarine.co.uk

However as already suggested it will be costly (depending on what you mean by "complete rewire") . It is very doable as a DIY job but enormously time consuming hence the high cost if paying somebody. There are of course ways you can reduce this cost by doing some of the donkey work yourself and have a professional bits you think are beyond you. I have just done a similar size boat myself and if you have the commitment to read up on how to go about it and patience it is very rewarding.

Hi Tranona

Thanks for your reply, i am looking to narrow the amount of cables/wires behind my control panel, i am sure not all are required and your probably right, maybe i should do the straight forward work and get an expert in for the rest

Just a couple of photos to show what is involved. TBH the elctrics on boats of the age of yours are rubbish and you are better off ripping the whole lot out and starting again as I did using modern gear.
