A recent thread regarding an electrical socket has got me thinking.

Bavaria's come out of the factory with European 2-pin mains sockets. I have heard that there are replacement inserts for these fittings that convert them to the UK spec. I don't have a picture to hand unfortunately.

Anyone out there done it and can point me in the direction of a supplier? We are fed up with using travel plugs to do the conversion.

I found a soloution, I bought my toaster in Cherbourg. If you need an excuse to buy some wine... Say you are just going to get a toaster for the boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Berker sockets

I think you are probably talking about Berker sockets

from here you will also need the back box as they are slightly larger than the 2 pin ones

Jeanneaus have the same problem - euro sockets which need travel adaptors to work with UK plugs, which in turn always mean that the UK plug goes in upside down. The thing is, the Jeanneau sockets are really nice with a spring loaded cover which makes them look neat when nothing is plugged in. I'm still looking for a UK square pin equivalent, but so far, no luck. If anyone out there knows something, please let me know!

We went the other way with our Jeanneau and replaced the plugs on all the on-board mains items with French ones (available singly or in bags of 10 from RS components at a reasonable price).

That way I was able to keep the tidy sockets on board......

Just a thought!

You will also probably find that being 2 pin sockets the live and neutral can be reversed from one to another. They are on my boat but we use 2 pin plugs.

Could do but then every Monday when I return to the office I have to cut the 2 Pin plug off my Laptop and replace it with a UK plug. Very soon there will be no wire left to cut.

Joking aside, yep could do that but would rather go down the route of installing UK sockets. I know that they are available and so just need to source them.

Travel adapters do work, and that is what we currently use, but there are a pain in the watsit and as a result of using them, one of our spring loaded socket covers is now broken......

Just think that it would be a better, cleaner solution.

One of the replies above may have identified the bits that we need. All I need to do not is get a chance to go to the boat to see if that is the correct part.

Thanks to everyone for their input. When I find my ideal solution, I will post a reply with the details.

Regards

Wayne
