I finally decided to buy a small fridge for my boat in Greece. It will be a small 20L compressor unit like the Alpicool K25 or the Mestic MCC-25. Their given consumption is 1amp/h for the Alpicool and 0.65 kWh/24h for the Mestic.
At the moment I have a 40W solar panel charging a 100Ah domestic battery and a 75Ah engine battery.
I run the following kit on the boat:
- Small laptop computer for navigation
- depth/wind/speed displays
- small cabin lights
- occasional smart phone

and that's it.

To keep up with the new fridge consumption I am thinking of installing an extra 60W solar panel charging the existing 100Ah battery which I only boat last year.

Will this electrical set up be ok? Should I add more battery power?

Given you usually have more sun than we have when in the UK you should be OK but an extra battery will give you a reserve to avoid over discharging and reducing the life.

Tin hat on now to avoid all the flak from the pedantic know it all experts!

Don't know where you got your power ratings from but this looks a tad more than 1amp for the Alpicool! Even their quoted 4.5 amps is a bit low for 60 Watts. Although that is quoted as average, could be more could be less. The Mestic seems a bit less at 45 Watts.

PRODUCT FEATURE
Product Parameter
  • Power Input(V): DC 12/24V
  • Currency(A): DC 4.5/2.2A
  • Temperature Range: -20℃-20℃
  • Average Power Consumption: 60 W
  • Total Capacity: 25L

Yes I double checked, the Alpicool is rated 60W which seems a bit much. I'll go for the Mestic I think.

Some of these Chinese interpretations of technical terms can be a bit suspect. What ever you choose, if you have the space I would be inclined to increase both solar and battery capacity. More is better than less!

I agree with Alex.

You'll definitely need the extra 60w panel and another battery can only be a good thing.
