Does anybody have any experience of these toilets. I've seen them at boat shows and always thought 'when I have a boat I'll get one of those' but I've never seen one installed. Are they reliable, worth it, a luxury too far, more hassle than they're worth?

Thanks
Richard

Ive got one on my Van de Stadt and very nice it is too!
Its a bit noisy because of the electric motor and macerator which is really beefy. However, we never put paper down but do use a chemical called aqua fuerte ( spanish supermarkets) to keep it free of calcium deposits in the line. Down here the lines can block up quickly due I think to temperature of salt water as much as anything and the quicker chemical reaction with urine. Its been going for years and much easier than pumping by hand. Ive had both types. Just make sure you can get at the motor and all the lines easily if you do decide to go ahead. You never know when you may need to get at them, but thats true of most things on a boat

Went electric (Jabsco) a couple of years ago. It was 'her' idea and was not cheap, but I'm converted now too. Is not hugely noisy, sure it pulls quite a current but only for a few seconds. OK it might go wrong, it has a joker valve that will need to be replaced occasionally, I guess the motor might fail, but that's about all the parts there are. This one macerates as it pumps, so paper appears not to be a problem.
When installed, the other change we made was to flush with fresh water - we have very big tanks on our boat so OK for our purposes, with benefits of no stinky inlet pipe and no extra electric pump for flush.

I fitted a Tecma electric toilet into the boat about ten years ago and have had no problems with it. It is fully automatic, just one press of the button and walk away. It is certainly a lot quieter than the SL400 it replaced. A word of warning, only use toilet roll! they do not like face wipes etc.

We have 2 on board - great - they are certainly no noisier than listening to someone pump a hand pump version. - but we do use fresh water to flush to avoid the 'bad egg' smell when using raw water.

3 year Decision!

Well nearly 3 years later and I'm starting the renovation - I'm going for a Lavac for simplicity - electric with manual backup(no pun intended)!

I agree they are the nicest of the electric ones. Arrange rear access to get to the pump for service if they do block having to remove the pan to get to it is a PITA.....
