If anyone's interested there is a good summary of building a solar electric creel boat here. An Argyll-based fisherman and boat builder has assembled a Fischer Panda pod drive & EPropulsion battery combination with solar panels. It's a 20kW pod with a 60 mile range and makes for interesting reading. It makes our Spirit outboard look a bit underpowered! The website summarises the technical build and the usability and has a few short videos of it in action. A good place to while away the time and feel inadequate about my own DIY skills...
