Hi
Our 2 stroke outboard went bang today, and im looking for a new outboard for our tender. I'm considering an electric one,we only use it for our honwave 3m tender to and from the beach , nothing else. Does anyone have any recommendations/ experience of electric outboards?
Many thanks

I bought a 2.7 honwave with a torqeedo last year and have really been pleased with it. It's clean, easy, reliable, silent and no servicing costs. If you only need to do 4 or 5 knots why bother with petrol.

I bought the 1003s, it goes just as fast as other dinghies with 2.5 hp petrols, I've tried it! Weight I think is 13kg but the battery comes off so your never lift/carry it in one piece.

The Torqeedo is the only practical electric outboard, but does have its limitations, particularly range. So a good buy if your pattern of usage can fit within those limitations. Horrendously expensive though compared with a petrol outboard.

Do not be tempted by the cheap egg whisk type as they are useless for your needs.

Many thanks of your replies, I think the torqueedo is the one to go for, I didn't think the price was that bad for the 1003s , for what we need it does seem to fit the bill and weight is far less than the outboard,
Thanks again for your advices,

Sorry, a bit late to this. The 1003 is a great bit of kit, maintenance free, very light and will give you a good half day at mid throttle; so plenty for an exploration up the river. The range indicator is pretty accurate and of course it's great to have not petrol on board.

Charging is slow, around 12 hours for a full charge but you will find this is not a regular event. Very effective with our 2.7 v air hull tender and the best part was that when I sold the torqueedo after 3 years of ownership I got more than half of he money back :)

Another vote for the Torqueedo we have just bought the DinghyGo and it works really well on that.Easy to setup no fuel to carry and packs away into 2 manageable bags for storing.

I have a Torqeedo 1003, and agree with the above. Big pluses are it's light and I don't have to store petrol on board. Range not an issue for our limited use.
