I am looking to get a tender and I need some power. I can find 2.5hp two strokes secondhand locally for around £300, but I am thinking that maybe electric is the way to go. easy to handle and store, no petrol in the lazarette. I am too tight to pay £1700 for a Torqueedo, but I saw on the PBO forum that the Bison is an alright motor for around £200.
Any opinions appreciated.
Also thinking of a 2.4m inflatable with a V air floor. 2.6m better maybe or just more of a handful?
Again, any input appreciated.

For a family, 2 adults and 2 small kids a 2.6-2.8 is about right. A 2.4 for one or two adults. (based on being not only capable of ferrying pax but also any picnic hampers / luggage etc while doing it for any beach excursions)

I am not sure about the range.

What battery would you need to run one of these for say an hour (not that silly if you run from an anchored boat to the shore and back a couple of times?

Need to think carefully about it.

A 2.5hp outboard will burn next to no fuel, and should run for an hr on its little inboard tank, much cheaper too I suspect?

55A at 24v

So you'd need 2 x 75ah batteries for an hours use, because once you've pulled 55A from a 75ah battery performance is going to start to drop off significantly!

Thats a lot of battery for a small dinghy, however, it is certainly do-able

Well, I have gone down the old school route. A local guy was selling his 2.6m inflatable and he had an old 2hp Johnson there too so I bought that as well Probably most of 25 years old, immaculate condition. starts and runs like a beauty and weighs next to nothing. and less than £100.

I got a bit carried away and bought a second one. The Piles Fleet is growing.
The first one is very tidy but it is a membrane floor with slats. I spotted a 2.7m flabby with an inflatable floor and v hull so I bought that one as they track and travel through the water better. They weren't dear so I should get my money back.
