I keep a boat abroad and mains power is connected all the time. After a power cut, the trip switch has to be pressed for mains power to be restored and as I'm a couple of thousand miles away most of the year, that's difficult to do and there have been long periods with no mains electric supply on board.

Does anyone know of a device that I could purchase to prevent this or a particular way of (safetly) wiring it? I'm not too hopeful, but maybe an electrical genius can help..

It should not trip after a powercut, if this was the case then every domestic fridge and freezer would trip out, they don't. If part of a circuit trips out then something is overloading it
