I use plastic labels you write on with permanent marker (fine) that have an integral cable tie. Can be fitted at any time and even changed if needed
Make sure you get the correct printer which can use the UV resistant tape, which lasts a long time exposed - the usual type of label is not readable after a year outside!Just about any of the Brother label printers will do this sort of job and make nice labels for a switch panel.

I have used normal TZ tapes for labelling in the cockpit. All labels perfect after 4years.
