Hi
thinking of purchasing 1or 2 110Ah leisure batteries - the spec looks very good, 1000 discharges to 80% DOD and a 5 year warranty and good prices. Also recommended by the caravan club (?) if this means anything.
Any experience good or bad with these batteries would be good to know about
thanks

I've got 2 elecsol 110 AH, use them for both starting and domestic and, 2 years in, they've been fine. I've not had any need to ask for cust service so don't know about that.

Hi - I have a set of electsols. My set up - which is daft - is a s follows.

1 x 230 ah on domestics, and 2 100-ah on the engine. When I got the boat the 230ah domestics were shot so I had to replace them. I had to use another electsol as they would be parallled for charging with the 2 other elctosl on the engine. Electsol say you should not charge over 14.4V, when other lead acid will be taken to 14.8 volts. So you cannot mix the in a battery bank.

Now I wish I had chucked them all out, as dealing with the customer services, to solve the problem with the new battery, delivered at 12.2 volts static. they are NOT nice people to deal with (understatement).

The stats they use are misleading, in that to get them they charge to 15Volts, so the battery is actually less than 200ah if charged to only 14.4V

The bigest nuisance is the fact that because they have a lowercharging voltage limit than normal batteries, you have to set up your charging as if they were Gel batteries. I also think that I do not get a good charge in them, as they seem to be slow in charging. OK if you are on shore power, but I am not.

All in all go get a set of Numax - They are econsiderably cheaper. Just don't deal with such masty people if you don't have to.

hi chaps
thanks for advice - I think on reflection I will go cheap & cheerful with Numax, I have had these before and have had reasonable life from their batteries.

I bought 2 Elecsol 110 batteries from Tayna, good helpful advice, quick delivery and seem to hold bags of charge, only 1 season as yet so I can't comment on longevity.
Sorry- not as interesting as a good moan.

[/ QUOTE ]In late 2004 I needed to replace my batteries before heading to the Med and asked Elecsol if I could visit their works, to inspect the factory, before buying. Nooooooooooooo way! They were, as you say, NOT nice people to deal with!! I suspect that they buy in cheap product and badge it otherwise they'd be proud to let people visit.

At that time, Barden Batteries also tried to sell me Elecsols which I was surprised about as they hadn't seen the factory either, so they told me.

I cannot be totally negative about the batteries, the 2 x 100ah on the engine are now 7 years old, but they are getting weak. But then they have not had to do much in that time! I need also to link one of the batteries in this bank to the domestics, but this means changing the new 200 ah one as the voltages charge limit of 12.4V are not compatible with others!

I was talked in to buying three of their 110 ah batteries. They all failed completely during the second season. I phoned them to discuss their 5 year guarrantee. They wern't just rude on the phone, they were possitively aggressive - I lost over three hundred pounds. Don't touch them with the proverbial barge pole.

Sorry to hear that - but this is what I would have expected following my request for a little advice, when they deleivered their new batteries to me nearly flat! It was all my fault and absolutley nothing to do with them. Nasty people!!!!

I bought 2x 125Ah Elecsols before setting off for the Med in 2004. Last winter I found they were holding around 150Ah between them, still inside the 5-year warranty period. They offered me a pro rata reduction on the price of a new pair. Being in Turkey, I couldn't take them up on it. I think their longevity claims are exaggerated.
