I thought I'd give it a try as it's probably over twenty years old and hoped it would be a gentle way of cleaning it.

Ive put quite a few EGR coolers into the sonic bath cleaner at work 
They usually take 4 x 90 min passes with a fluid change after pass 2.
The secret is to put the temperature up as high as you can.

Yes, all tickets boo and while you can't really say it's purring along, it shouts at 3000rpm without the sound deadening covers, but now continues to make noise.
