I'm looking for sailboat insurance for a somewhat particular situation: Finnish-registered sailboat, I myself am an Irish citizen (but don't have an Irish address as have spent the past 7 years living in the US). I've been given what seems like a reasonable insurance quote from a German insurer EIS (European Insurance Services). Annual premium is around 400 euro for third party insurance and cover on my boat (40 year old boat valued at around 20,000 euro).

Does anyone have any experience with EIS? How well are they regarded? Any issues getting reimbursed for claims?

Thanks for the help!

Don't know that company but, having this last week been shopping around for insurance, seems very expensive for just third party. I've just renewed fully comp for £100 more on a boat worth over three times the value.

A quotation I had from Pantaenius showed the third party section of the policy costing £48 but as a stand alone policy would no doubt be quite a bit more.

You don't say where you (and the boat) are located - that is far more important than where your boat is registered or your nationality.

If I read you correctly the cover is for the value of the boat as well, so 400 euros (£350) is about right, perhaps top end for similar cover in the UK for that value boat. Can't comment on the company as they don't operate in the UK.

Ive just paid £413 fullycomp for named value of £53k. Me Brit, boat in Portugal. Haven Knox Johnson

Thanks for the comments everyone. Feels like the premium might be a little on the high side, but not outrageous. Tranoma - boat and I are currently in Finland, but will be sailing through the Baltic, along the French canals, and then cruising in the Mediteranean. Given EIS is providing both 3rd party insurance and insurance on my boat for entirety of Europe, price feels okay in light of what others have said here.

I really appreciate the help everyone. Thanks so much!
