I'm heading back East, I think. Basically been told I have to. Currently putting prices together to get there. Sailing is obviously the cheapest way, but I don't have time to, so I'm going to have to be boring and go by road. It is moments like this that one has pangs of regret after buying a bigger, heavier, needs-a-lorry boat.

Anyway, I do hope I get the opportunity to buy you all a pint at some point... not all at once, you understand.

:) I went back there last year. Went on an unplanned summer jolly from London on the motorbike, ended up in Essex, eventually, and then found the boatyard. Oh what a lovely place.

Unfortunately, my orders are to be within daily commuting distance to London, at that's a wee bit too far.

Au contraire. The mainline railway station is 1/4 mile walk, and dumps you in Liverpool St in just over 40 minutes.
 
not forgetting the Ferry Boat Inn

did some really good beers there
and the food was pretty good

that narrow boat is Mikes, well it was a few years ago
I used to be parked up where the fishing boat is

This might now be a plan. I've got quotes. Preston want £257.40 to lift the boat on to a lorry, and de-step the mast. Fox's in Ipswich (fancied a bit of a sail South), want £578 to put the mast back on and launch her. Crikey!

I think North Fambridge is looking promising, especially if I can use it's commuting loveliness to keep out of London for a little bit and get some weekend Crouch bombing in. Can you anchor in the Roach with a 5'6" draft? I can't recall the depth.
 
The "might be a plan" lasted long.

Just booked the lift out in Preston for the 19th March. Currently awaiting confirmation from the transport chap on the date, then I've got to confirm North Fam can handle the arrival. Ooh 'eck. Very excited. I can't wait to have an Essex mud bath.
 
Carter and Ward at Rochford would step and launch much cheaper, and you can anchor in *most* of the Roach.

Bridgemarsh is cheaper and the rail station is even closer, but no shop or pub nearby, although there is no shop in Fambridge either.
