EFRA Report

I also received this yesterday. It is a pretty hefty 45 page report from the Defra select committee regarding managing flood risk across the UK. It also contains information regarding the proposed Govt/Insurance Industry scheme to provide affordable insurance for those living in flood risk areas.
As far as I can see, it does not contain any information specifically affecting the navigations although money from Flood Risk allocations is contributed to navigation budgets where there is relevant crossover benefit.

"effective dredging of watercourses must be a priority" does this not include the Thames ?

I'm quite sure it does. But I'm not sure that we can assume that dredging to achieve flood relief objectives will necessarily mean the work will have benefits for navigation. The Jubilee River was a specific flood relief scheme but has no tangible navigation benefits.

It would be nice to think that flood relief and navigation would act in a joined up way but the statement is a general one rather than anything specific.
