Did anyone else experience effects of yesterday's earthquake?
I was tying up at the marina yesterday after a shakedown trip and out of nowhere we had nasty swells that shredded one of my fenders!

I caught a little of the BBC Timewatch programme on the 1607 wave in the Bristol Channel which was repeated recently. If anyone has not seen it (first broadcast in 2004 -2005 I believe) it is still available on i-player.

It was bizarre! I moor at Essex marina in the crouch, no wind flat calm.... then the swell started and lasted for about 10 mins. The pontoon walkways were moving, never experienced it like that, it didn't last long but it came out of nowhere.

Probably because the Crouch lines up east west with there the compression waves in the earth were coming from, wales. Might have moved a mudbank upstream.

Not the same earthquake, but I was moored in Karacaoren bay which is a few miles from Fethiye when an earthquake struck the town doing some damage and leading to the death of a man who jumped from a window. The effect on the boat was noise and vibration transmitted through the water. It sounded just as if the engine had started up on its own. We went on deck and saw a strange cloud which appeared to be travelling down a nearby mountain. It was a dust cloud following an avalanche of loose rock..

The earthquake had an effect at Fambridge Yacht Station too, relatively large waves tossing moored boats about with abandon. No damage done though. While the waves at Burnham appear to have been running west to east, those at Fambridge ran south-east to north-west.
