GREAT PIC but a general question i have an old echo sounder that works but could i fit a cheep echo ,fish finder with the sender under the bathing platform as i dont want another hole in the boat sorry for the change of tact .roy

But I'm afraid the answer to your question can only be "it depends".
It would help if you could post the transducer model (or if you don't know it, at least the previous unit it was working with), AND the new unit you're thinking to use it with.

no i want to keep the one thats working but only gives depth i want to fit a complete new system with transducer and fish finder ,but want to fit the transducer to the bathing platform to safe having another hole also can fit while in the water, is there any problems with this ,roy

Aha, now I see what you mean.
Yes, in principle two transducers can happily live together and work in parallel.
But just along the lines of better safe than sorry, you might look for a new unit with a dual frequency transducer, which gives you the option of selecting one or the other in case of some interference. That shouldn't affect the cost too badly, anyway.

Most important, you're talking of a boat with outdrives or outboards, right?
Transom transducers are useless when the props are in front of them, as with shafts or IPS.

@seastoke: nope, the transducer needs "solid" water to work properly, so if placed behind the propeller(s) it can only work at extremely low speed, like while maneuvering.
But forget using it at any sort of cruise speed, even on slow displacement boats.

Glad you liked the pic folks, but I must admit that it's not mine.
I met a local photographer who made some aerial shots a few years ago, from a chopper, in one of the extremely rare days with no wind at all.
And he kindly gave me some files - even more impressive in hi-res, of course!
AM, the above spot is along the coast of "my" island. In fact, we actually passed along that spot together (it's not far from the lighthouse, to give you an idea), but unfortunately it's very exposed to the wind which we had that day...
...as opposed to the amazingly calm conditions at the time of the above pic!

Not everyone has a mast your height or at all and even if they did chances are they wouldn't be able to employ someone to be in watch a loft

Funny that you should mention the Echopilot, I had once an opportunity to try it and tbh I wasn't impressed.
