I'm quite surprised by the number of people on here who travel to the Essex Rivers from Lincolnshire and surrounds to enjoy their boats. Well, surprised is the wrong word but enduring the A14 and M11 on the 2 hour drive there and back is like a sort of hair shirt that we all wear most weekends during the summer, mostly greeted this year by half a gale and rain..... :)

The pleasures of the Mud, eh Sailorman or is that there is so many places to go without the risk of constantly worrying about Port and Starboard situations and not too many racing fleets to avoid. Don't get me wrong, I was brought up on Solent sailing, but the East Coast, and the people is and are the business!!

I have recently decided not to make our retirement home anywhere other than close to an East coast harbour.....

But if we're to give honest advice as we always do on this forum we'd have to admit that the sailing on the east coast is very poor compared to other parts of the country. People would be far better off visiting the Solent or other places with wifi. Nothing to see here. Move on ...

...and of course, Jim, you forgot to point out that your decision wasn't based on sailing considerations but limited by the restraining order ;-)

Having 'cut my keels' on the sand banks and muddy hollows of the Wash, Humber and N. Norfolk Coast and had to battle my way through Nottingham and Boston on a Friday evening to reach Gib Point; the M11 drive isn't so bad. And the Swatchways feel vaguely familiar to.
Essentially it's just been a case of substituting Batemans XB for Adnams Ghostship. I can live with that!

'Respect'

Wok dictates that a lad from the 'smoke' now resides in Derbyshire - great plan for boat owning...

3.25-3.5hrs each way most weekends but would not want to be elsewhere.

Total agree with pjs travel from sheffield every Friday night and back again on Sunday 3/31/2 hours drive each way.
Also cut our boating teeth on the humber and the Trent love it around where we are now
