My 25 year old Eberspacher D3LCompact will have to be replaced as the ECU is no longer available (unless anyone know where I can get one) with the M2 D4L changeover kit. I suppose the Planar ones would not be a good choice now, not least because of questionable supply of spare parts.

There are no issues with spare parts. There is a years worth of spare parts in the UK already and production is planned to move to the EU by September. There is plenty of stock in the meantime. There was a huge delivery to UK last week.

I just checked with Owen, the Planar importer. He tells me he has 3-4 months stock in UK and EU and production will move to Latvia in September. ( All supplies come via Latvia at present. ) There should be no spare parts supply problems (not that there is a big need for spares given their reliability).

I assume it is 12v? ( have a D3LCcompact 24v here) What about a Chinese replacement?

More issues with spare parts from china than with Autoterm. Not to mention that you actually get parts appropriate for yacht installations with an Autoterm heater. Plus a 3 year warranty and UK based spares and 270 service centres in the Uk.
Can you substantiate that statement re spares from China, or is it just advertising your business?

It takes around 8 weeks for spare etc. to come from china. Even via post its two weeks at least. Branded heaters have next day delivery on all spares as there is a mass of UK stock.

As for advertising my business, I was answering a specific question asked about my business. I was not “advertising” it I was replying to a question. Then I was correcting someones incorrect assumptions about spares. I suspect spares supply of Autoterm heaters are not going to affect you directly? I don't suppose you have more idea on spares availability for Autoterm heaters than I do?

Just buy 2 Chinese ones, and keep one for spares. Still cheaper.
+1 0n that! I have bought and sold many Eberspaecher's over the last 15 years. I have many customers who still prefer them but I often tell them that a Chinese replacement would make financial sense.
I have however tried unsuccessfully) at length to establish a workable relationship with a Chinese manufacturer with a good provision for spares so buying 2 does make sense!!

Have you thought of putting an advert in the "wanted" section?
I have done that
I won’t embarrass Vyv or Owen by asking them things where replying might cross forum rules but is a completely new Autotherm kit likely to be significantly cheaper than an Eberspacher changeover kit?
To a degree I’m in the hands of the guy working on the boat but then my research indicates there is a supply problem with Eberspacher at the moment

+1 for Planar. Replaced my Eber a few years back. Very pleased i did.
Had string of old venerable worn out old Ardics and Ebers in previous boats, simply got fed up with them working faultlessly when "tested" in high summer but refusing to do little but emit profuse amounts of smoke in November.
Planar actually starts when the weather gets cold. It is usually running flat out as well and No worries about leaving on at night along with a couple of good quality CO2 monitors and smoke detector.
Still have well creased and much pored over instruction manual for an Ardic somewhere .

I'm running a Chinese Eber copy and it has worked faultlessly for the last 6 months or so. The only issue I have with the Chinese versions is that for larger boats they don't do a physically larger model to compare with the old D5LC that I had onboard so for 4 outlets, even when lagged, the 5KW Chinese edition is still underpowered. Planar do the 9D etc which I'm sure would do the job.

Another vote for Planar. On our Sadler 32 I installed it to recirculate air (drawing it from the foot of the quarter berth). A 2kw one with a single outlet has been plenty. Faultless for 4 seasons so far.

Owen answered that in post #2. He is supplied ftom Latvia but currently has massive stock in UK.
He answered one question, but supply of parts isn't the only consideration. Arguably supporting Russian companies is presently frowned upon regardless of supply and price. It's a shame but we are where we are and have to act accordingly. However small the support we're able to give it's better to give it while we can and hope that we all return to normal as soon as possible. Even if the parts are available right now, the sanctions likely won't end any time soon so the manufacturer could conceivably shut down unless they have a reasonable customer base in Russia and China, and let's face it selling cheap heaters in China will be a challenge!
