Eberspacher problem

Hi, just come on here to see if I could see if anyone else was having same prob as me, and hey presto its the first post. My D1LC runs for 10 or 15 mins then the flame goes off and the heater shuts itself down correctly, the green light on the rheostat is flashing (not sure if there is a gap after 4 flashes). The batteries are good and the fuel is good, if I turn the rheostat off and back on it fires up fine. I have today removed the heater from the boat so I can have a better look, but the first place I will be looking is the overheat thermostat to check for correct operation, and then the exhaust silencer to make sure the its not blocked or even partly blocked thus causing the unit to overheat. I checked the outputs were clear before removing heater, hope this gives you some more ideas and I will post back if I discover anything.

Re: Eberspächer problem

where did your heater come from?

Has it ever worked properly, it might have a timer on it, some did, BT fitted timers to all theirs, you may have to bypass it?

maybe?

Maybe someone could write to espar and ask for the fault codes so we can all have them on file?

Re: Eberspächer problem

Ours becomes unreliable every 3 years and we - at huge expense- send it in for a decoke. However first check the fuel filter in the back of the pump (making shure that you hold the pump with a spanner to stop it twisting inside). we wash it out with fairy liquid ( or buy a new one)

Re: Eberspächer problem

The heater came fitted to the boat, it had worked faultlessly for three years, then had been removed, serviced by eberspacher, used twice and then I became the owner and never worked correctly. I have downloaded the manual and the only error codes in there are ones which the special (and presumably very expensive) diagnostic box give out. It doesn't even mention the light flashing. I have had a look at mine today, it doesnt look very carboned up glow plug, screen etc all look good. However the flame sensor and the overheat limit switch seem to be in exactly the wrong places as the drawings in the book show them. I was going to swap there positions round but they are both fastened to the heat exchanger in different ways and so wouldn't swap. Next thing to look at I suppose is the fuel filter in the pump but thats still on the boat and so will have to wait /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
