I have just priced up the parts to add an extra warm air outlet to my heating. Price (from Eberspacher dealer) for a 'Y' junction, 1/2 metre of 50mm ducting, closeable outlet and a duct reducer(not sure why I needed that) came to over £90.

Any practical people out there got any suggestion how I can do it at minimal cost?

when I looked last year, ebay wasnt really any cheaper.
Might be worth calling about and asking if there is any dealer reduction during the boat show...

Take a look at Ebay for sure, then go to the German (De) Ebay site. The prices are far more sensible even with the bad £ to E exchange rate. Some of the UK Eber prices are becoming just silly.
Some German vendors won't ship to the UK, but will still sell if you arrange a courier.

fag packet calcs., I reckon that should all come in under £50.

I am not sure why you need the reducer for the vent. The Y has reducers fitted for 50mm, you remove them if you want to fit bigger pipe. For our closable vent, I just pushed the duct inside the pipe, I have put the thermal jacket around the outside of the vent pipe and strapped it down with a big tie-wrap. This has worked well for 6 years now.

With what you should save you could buy some thermal jacket for the ducting, it makes an enormous difference.

I think I spent (guestimates but around about)

Y £12 (truck dealer)
Closing vent £14 (ebay)
ducting 50mm 3m £30 (this is the one I am least sure of) (truck dealer)

EDIT>> The worst thing about ducting, everyone will tell you how they bought theirs at B&Q, Wicks, garden centres, garage supplies etc etc. I spent about a month looking everywhere and in the end gave up and bought genuine duct which has the benefit of knowledge that it will not melt/collapse/burst.

I probably spent far more on petrol looking to save a fortune than it cost me to buy the genuine article (I made the same mistake, in time and petrol, searching motor factors and the like for new seals for my yanmar water pump.... I do wish people would not make things up, things that would be nice if they were true :P).

No one was selling on Ebay when I installed my heater, I really wish they were, or that Stu had bought in to it before I met him so I could have bought some bits from him. I think I was the one who pointed him at a supplier in Hull, I should charge him a finders fee lol.

Can really relate to that! Tried all manner of 'off-cuts', cardboard tubes, etc. Never could source proper 50mm duct and in the end used 60mm with home-made adapters. Improvement was instant and amazing....and that's with a 25yr old DIL which is still going strong.
