My 11 year old D3LC heater broke down recently. It was failing to fire as normal and we had a strong smell of burnt bakelite throughout the boat.

On opening up the unit I discovered that the PCB had been "fried". The component that had been burnt out was about 20mm long and looks like a coil covered in a clearish plastic. I replaced the board at great expense and the heating is working fine, at the moment. Fingers crossed. However I still have the worry at the back of my mind over why the PCB "fried" in the first place.

Any suggestions? Should I be looking for faults elsewhere?

Hi Bill,
Can't help about the Eberspacher but I've done the photos thing. It takes a while to do and even longer to explain. You need an account at a photo hosting website such as photobucket then you load your photos to there. You should trim the photos to 600 by 480 pixels or smaller to avoid making the forum too wide. You can do that at photobucket (the resize tag at the top of the picture) or before you load the photos. Photobucket offers different urls for email, forums, websites etc. Copy the forum url. Then paste the url to insert the photo thus:

Hope you're feeling better,
