I think i’ve managed to be locked out of my eberspacher D5 it’s of ’97 vintage. I here that after 4 or 5 non starts, It locks you out, so you cant start it. I’ve changed the fuel pump this weekend and it’s taken along time to bleed the air out of the fuel line. And now it fails to start at all.

Has anybody managed to lock the eberspacher and what was the symptoms and how did you sort it out.

TIA

Ha, ha, ha. Yerve been done. You have to take it to an eberobber agent to be unlocked. Cost me 60 squid I think.

Joint the queue. There one born every minute.. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for that, just what i needed to here. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

on a serious note what happened to yours when this happened. mine starts it's cycle now but never fires up or switches off.

Yep - that's locked out and need a reset from the ebespaaaachhhhheerrr "ingeeneer" ha - he carries a "diagnostic tool" (which you can buy for about 300 quid)

The flashing sequence will display the problems the heater had/has.

I had a new DL5 fitted which would work when it felt like it but not when you needed it. Had to call out the "engineer" three times then he started to fluff on about starting to charge. I got on to th MD of Eberbeast so they fitted a new one which was ok but I really never did have any faith in it.

Now I've fitted a webasto much better unit and has it's own diagnostics lamp on the control panel and doesn't lock out!

Cheers

Ian

as I've posted here before, would it not make sense for the eberspacher owning forumites not be wise to purchase a diagnostic tool between them, and share it between them for lockout situations? Or one buy it and rent to other users at a a reasonable cost.

The D5 does not have a lockout feature.

It is only the old D1LC compact model that does this.

Check your wiring to start with, incl fuses.

If you did alot of no starts, the glow plug may have burnt out. If this has happened, the heater will do nothing at all when you switch it on, no fan, no pumping, no nothing. Replace it and it will probably work fine again.

Failing that, who knows? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

the newer units can be purchased with an electronic timer control unit, which as well as turning the unit on or off at preset days and times (I don't unse this feature) also display all the error codes. Thought I ought to mention this as some still buy new units and the standard temperature control which doesn't offer this feature. Not sure if it can be retro fitted to older units. I had exactly the same problem with priming the deisel fuel pump recently with my new unit - it locked out, gave an error code, was able to reset and hey presto the unit worked

This was also posted recently:

"a few tips for the Eberspcaher file.

If your Eber stops working and you don't want to buy the expensive diagnostic gadget - either buy the digital timer / controller (about £40 on ebay)...this will display the error code for you which you can then look up in the manual. Or, after shutdown simply use a paper click to short the black&white wire in the thermostat to the yellow wire for a second. This will cause it to flash an error code sequence on the green LED (most already show the over-heat flash code, but not the other far more informative error codes). Again refer to the manual for meaning of codes."

i missed one on ebay last week, it went for £103, could have kicked myself, however there are a few of the rectangular timer/temp controllers on ebay at about £30, if you connect the blue white wire they will then give a fault code when it shutsdown. have just bought one and tested it, i disconnected the fuel pipe and it gave F52, check fuel!!
