Our Eberspacher packed up a few days ago. It had recently been serviced, de-coked and had a new control unit fitted. Code 52 came up on an acquaintences diagnostic kit "safety shut down, no flame detected" (or words to that effect). Assumed it was the glow pin - £88. Then someone asked how much fuel in the tank -it was 1/4 full only. Bingo, the Eberspacher pick up pipe is quite short to prevent the main tank from being emptied by the unit. Filled the tank up, switched it on, and brilliant, heating works again.
I did not realise that the heater pump supply was set up in this way, but worth remembering to ensure the fuel tank is kept above about 1/4 full if you want heating.

Like I said, I bet you knew that!!

Yes, had exactly the same happen. Sucked out 10 litres of old fuel and gunk and put 5 litres of new fuel in. Would not start. Put another 5 litres in and it worked.

Ebersparcher heaters are quite sensitive to having clean fuel, so keeping the pick up pipe higher off the tank floor is one way to maintain it is clear of muck. For my Ebersparcher, a separate tank pickup was not possible, so it was taken from a spare outlet on the main engine filter. Chatting last week with a Webasto service agent, he said that I could have problems if I ran the engine and Ebersparcher together, but as I sail as much as possible, I doubted if that would be a problem. However he did suggest fitting an additional inline filter and supplied a Webasto filter for £50 which is to be fitted.

Yes, that's exactly as it should be installed, I have known people all but empty their tank and be unable to move on inland boats because they had installed the pipe too long or worse, taken from the main filter.

Edit to say that really 1/4 tank is a bit over cautious though.
