Eberspacher (I know at this time of the year!!)

I fired up the eber a few nights ago as I didn't want it sitting doing nothing for a months on end and then not working as it should when i really need it.
Interestingly, it started up fine, but then after 15 minutes first time, then 10 minutes the second, it slowed and stopped. I didn't try it a third..........

Now, I was wondering what happens to an Eber when the ambient temperature is so high? It must have been well up in the high 20's/early 30's when I tried it. Also, my Eber (D1LCc) has an external temp sensor, but was not connected at the time, ie the wiring was in place , but I'd started a while ago to re-route the external sensor to somewhere more convenient, had cut the wires and hadn't re-connected them.

Sounds like it was shutting down due to overheating. Was it running on the max heat setting?

I assume so............ the controller was at full bars if that is what you mean. I'm not aware of any other way to control the heat setting, I just assumed the controller adjusted the blower speed- but I might be wrong there.

Agree, it's probably shutting down because of the onboard thermostat. When I run mine (no external heat sensor) it will shut down when the locker in which it is housed gets warm. I have to keep the locker open to keep it running.

That is helpful indeed. Just a question/thought, does the unit power down but not off and if so, will/should/could it start up again when the temperature falls sufficiently?

Yes, it should start up if it gets cooler.

I would have thought so, but mine never seemed to... or maybe I was just impatient, I just powered it off and on again.

If you have full bars as you put it then either the internal or external temperature target set point will be around 37c, minimum bars should give aset point of around 9c, they are much less accurate with an internal as the ambient temperature around the heater is always higher than true ambient. unless you are ducting fresh air in from outside. I would strongly suspect that it is behaving normally, just too high temperature around it. Still a good thing to run it regularly though.
